How do I make an appointment?
You can either make an appointment online via this link or whatsapp (call) us on +31 6 154 54 562.
How can I prepare for my first treatment?
There are a few things you can do to make the best out of your session:
Wear loose and comfortable clothes. We need access to your knees and/or elbows. You are welcome to bring shorts to change into them.
Make sure you have eaten something small within 3 hours before your session. With food and natural resources, your treatment will be optimal.
Please don’t drink caffeinated drinks right before the session.
Be relaxed, put your phone on silent and schedule enough time before and after your session to make it on time and not rush into your next thing afterwards.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes, our sessions are reimbursable by your additional health insurance (aanvullende zorgverzekeraar). I am a registered acupuncturist at Zhong. Read more about it in this reimbursement overview from zorgwijzer (in Dutch).
What do you feel during an acupuncture treatment? Is acupuncture painful?
Most clients experience a sense of calmness and peace. They fall asleep so they use the time to take a nap. Other clients say they feel warmth and slight tingling (moving the qi).
The treatment is relaxing and not painful. You may feel a slight pinch in the more sensitive points at first, but that sensation quickly disappears. Other sensations you will feel are warmth, buzzing, pressure and pain. These are desirable sensations that indicate that blood flow and Qi are moving in the area.
How often should I come back for follow-up treatments?
This depends on several factors, including the problem, lifestyle, age, build and physical condition.
An acute injury responds faster than long-term (psychological and mental) symptoms. Someone who is burned out (mental/physical) may need (bi)weekly treatments in the beginning. Someone who is coming for a general recovery treatment might benefit from one treatment per month.
Acupuncture has a cumulative effect, meaning that the more often you get acupuncture, the faster you will see results. Like all other therapies (physical therapy, chiropractor, doctor, etc.), you must commit to consistency and frequency of a treatment plan.

What does acupuncture do?
There are two main explanations from a western medicine perspective acupuncture points are believed to stimulate the central nervous system. This helps with releasing chemicals into the muscles, spinal cord, and brain. These biochemical changes may stimulate the body’s natural healing abilities and promote physical and emotional well-being.
From a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective acupuncture helps with balancing the Qi, blood, fluids, yin and yang.. Disruption of these factors are believed to cause disease. By applying acupuncture to certain points we improve the flow and improve the health.
